The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has opened a public consultation on a proposed procedure for agreeing settlements in competition-law investigations.
The development comes after legislation that came into effect last year gave the watchdog expanded powers to enforce EU and Irish competition law.
The Competition (Amendment) Act 2022 included a provision empowering the CCPC to fine businesses who are found to have breached competition law.
The watchdog has published a draft settlement procedure outlining its proposed approach to entering into discussions and agreeing a settlement with parties under investigation for a suspected breach of competition law.
The watchdog is now inviting interested parties to share their views on the procedure.
The consultation will run until 5pm on Friday 20 September.
