Matheson advising on Smurfit Kappa merger

Matheson is advising FTSE 100 paper-based packaging company Smurfit Kappa Group on its proposed combination with US-based WestRock Company, to form Smurfit WestRock.

Matheson lawyers working on the deal include David Fitzgibbon (head of corporate M&A), partners David Jones (New York) and Susanne McMenamin.

Significant

Fitzgibbon said:  "This significant transaction marks an exciting next chapter in Smurfit Kappa's growth story as it combines with WestRock to form Smurfit WestRock.”

Working on the deal are senior associate Alan McMullan, associate Joanna Crowley, solicitors Darren Quinn, Leo Collins, Megan Gantly, Kevin Lavin and Rachel Hodgins, and trainees Peter Holland and Ciara Hayes.

Also involved are tax principal John Ryan and partners Philip Tully, Tomas Bailey, and Matthew Broadstock, with tax associate Rachel O'Sullivan, anti-trust partner Kate McKenna and senior associate Simon Shinkwin; and partners Christian Donagh and Maireadh Dale, supported by senior associate Sherilyn Deane and associate Nicole Burke (finance).

Matheson is working with US counsel Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and British counsel Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP.
