Training workshop on disability awareness

Law Society Skillnet is hosting a training session on disability awareness on Tuesday 17 October (2pm to 4pm).

The workshop, which is limited to 20 participants, will be delivered live online through Zoom meetings, and is worth two CPD hours.

The training aims to educate participants on the core aspects of disability and disability-related issues, giving participants greater confidence when engaging with work colleagues and service users with disabilities.

Topics and issues

It is open to all staff working in a solicitor practice or in-house in the legal-services sector.

The event aims to address myths and misconceptions that people may have about disability.

Topics and Issues covered:

  • Introduction to disability-awareness training,
  • Statistics related to disability in Ireland,
  • Definition of disability to include ‘Disabled person and person with a disability’,
  • Diversity within disability,
  • Discrimination and bias,
  • Barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities,
  • Myths and assumptions about disability,
  • Respectful communication and disability etiquette,
  • Equality v equity.
