Legal groups host COP28 sideline event

A number of legal organisations are to co-host an off-site event during the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) being held in Dubai.

The bodies involved are the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Brazilian Bar Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.

The event will take place on Friday 8 December 2023 (2pm to 6pm Dubai time) and will focus on the role that legal professionals and organisations play in addressing the key international challenges posed by climate change.

‘Climate-conscious lawyering’

Experts will discuss legal capacity-building across nations, regulatory steps taken by bars and law societies on climate change, and the rise of climate-conscious lawyering and what this means in practice for lawyers when advising clients.

The event will hear from commercial lawyers, academics, non-governmental organisations and policymakers.
