Hammond joins council of pharmacy watchdog

Solicitor Richard Hammond SC has been appointed to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) for a four-year term.

The society is an independent public body that regulates pharmacists and pharmacies in Ireland. Its work includes setting the standard for pharmacists’ education and training.

Hammond, who has chaired the Law Society’s Education Committee since 2021, was previously a member of the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (now Quality and Qualifications Ireland).

He was also a member of the Higher Education Authority during the period when it was asked to designate an institution to host a second publicly funded pharmacy course.

His appointment runs from 13 November 2023 until 12 November 2027, and comes after a Public Appointments Service campaign.
