CPD points on offer at Law Society events

The EU and International Affairs Committee, in partnership with Law Society Professional Training, is hosting a CPD event on Tuesday 4 May from 6-7pm.

This will be a discussion on the relationship between Bunreacht na hÉireann and the Indian Constitution and their jurisprudential journeys over the last 75 years in a post-colonial world. 

The speakers are:

  • Ross McMahon, solicitor, notary public and European trademark and design lawyer,
  • Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra (Embassy of India, Dublin) and
  • John O’Dowd (lecturer, School of Law UCD.)

Attendance counts for one general CPD hour (by group study) and is a complimentary event.

Meanwhile, the In-House and Public Sector Committee, together with Law Society Skillnet, is hosting an event on-site at Blackhall Place on Wednesday, 10 May from 2-4.30pm.

This is the annual In-House Public Sector panel discussion and counts for 2.5 management and professional development skills (by group study).

Impact for solicitors

This year, the focus is on the social aspects of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) and its impact for in-house solicitors and the organisations/businesses they serve – both public and private.

There will a panel discussion followed by smaller break-out discussion groups.

Topics for discussion include:

  • Broad definitions of workers, value chain workers, affected communities, consumers and end-users,
  • Interconnection with governance and legal compliance,
  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive,
  • Neurodiversity, Disability, LGBT+ and employment matters including racial diversity.

Chair for the discussion is Caroline Dee Brown (In-house and Public Sector Committee chair and director of legal services, Commission for Communications Regulation).

  • Richard Lee (Lee Solicitors),
  • Maeve Delargy (Philip Lee LLP),
  • Joy-Tendai Kangere (barrister at Bar of Ireland),
  • Kate McKenna (Frontline Ventures), and
  • Marion O’Donnell (Sustainable Investing, Fidelity International).
