Live Register for May at 182,000, up 0.4%

The seasonally-adjusted Live Register total for May stood at 182,000, up by 800 or 0.4% from April.

The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 176,999 for May, new CSO figures show.

Of the 176,999 on the unadjusted Live Register in May 2023, a total of 53.6% were male, while 69.2% were Irish.

The 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in May at 41,985 or 23.7%.

Temporary protection

Labour market statistician Conor Delves said that 22,810 people on the EU's Temporary Protection Directive are included in the Live Register figures for May 2023, a decrease of 283 from April 2023.

The counties that saw the largest percentage increase in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to May 2023 were Kerry (29.5%) and Leitrim (29.5%).

The number on the Live Register for one year or more in May was 63,268, down 2,410 from a year earlier.

There were 113,731 (64.3%) on the Live Register for less than one year, Delves said.
