UCD seminar this week on constitutional law changes

The UCD Centre for Constitutional Studies is hosting its annual review of major developments in Irish constitutional law on Thursday (19 January) between 2pm and 4.30pm. 

Professor Eoin Carolan SC will address the major cases in constitutional law from 2022 and other speakers will include:

  • Dr Tom Hickey of DCU,
  • Brian Foley SC,
  • Associate Professor John O'Dowd.

Developments

The event will examine and explain the most significant developments from 2022 and will be of interest to legal practitioners and academics. Students undertaking FE1 exams will also be particularly keen to hear Prof Carolan's summary of the major cases last year.

Topics to be covered include:

  1. The leading constitutional cases of 2022,
  2. Implications of Costello v  Government of Ireland,
  3. Future of the proportionality doctrine in Irish constitutional law,
  4. Constitutional framework for damages in tort.

There are two CPD points offered to delegates. 

The fee to attend is €50, with a reduced rate of €25 for students, NGOs and practitioners of less than three years.

Individual and corporate 'friends' of the Center for Constitutional Studies will also pay the reduced rate (per person).
