The Government has decided to nominate barrister Mícheál P O’Higgins SC as a judge of the High Court.
O’Higgins is a former chair of the Bar Council, who was called to the Bar in 1990, and appointed senior counsel in 2008.
At its meeting this week, the Government also nominated solicitor Simon McAleese as a Circuit Court judge. Elizabeth Maguire SC was also nominated for a Circuit Court post.
McAleese, known as a specialist in media law, qualified as a solicitor in 1990, and established Simon McAleese Solicitors LLP in 2002.
The nominations now go to the President.
