Live Register down 0.4% since December to 184,700

The seasonally adjusted Live Register total for January stood at 184,700 – down by 700 (or 0.4%) from December, CSO data shows.

The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 184,736 people for January 2023.

Of the 184,736 on the Live Register in January, 53.7% were male, 46.3% were female, and 69.8% were Irish.

The 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in January at 43,867 people, or 23.7%.

All counties saw an increase in the number on the Live Register in the 12 months to January 2023.

The counties that saw the greatest increase were Kerry (41.7%) and Leitrim (36.8%).

The counties with the lowest increase in numbers were Kildare (1.6%) and Tipperary (2.6%).

The number on the Live Register for one year or more in January  was 61,003 –  down 11,644 from a year earlier.

There were 123,733 (67%) on the Live Register for less than one year.
