Order to increase pay in security industry

Workers in the security industry will see their pay rise from 4 September, after an Employment Regulation Order (ERO) for the sector was signed today (25 August).

From 4 September, workers in the sector will have a new minimum rate of pay of €12.90 an hour – up from the previous €11.65.

The order, which had initially been due to start a year ago, had been delayed by a legal challenge.

‘Patience’

“The delay in commencing this order has been difficult for the thousands of workers impacted, and I would like to thank them for their patience over the past year,” said Neale Richmond (Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail).

Last year, three security firms secured a High Court injunction preventing the ERO from coming into effect, but the legal dispute was settled last month.
