Webinar to examine assisted decision-making

Law Society Skillnet is to host a live Zoom webinar to look at the wide-ranging implications for practitioners of new legislation on assisted decision-making.

The webinar takes place on Thursday 20 April (3.30-5.30pm), and offers two CPD hours.

The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 is due to commence on 26 April.

This seminar will explore how the new framework will affect practice, with a focus on Circuit Court applications and solicitors’ interaction with the Decision Support Service.

It will offer practical guidance on the new processes.

Chair and speakers

Aine Hynes SC (partner at St John Solicitors, pictured) will chair the event. She has been a member of the Council of the Law Society and many of its committees, and was appointed last year by the Minister for Justice to the Civil Legal Aid Review Group.

She currently chairs the Law Society Mental Health Law and Capacity Taskforce.

Speakers include:

  • Mark Felton (Felton McKnight Solicitors LLP),
  • Áine Flynn (Director of the Decision Support Service, Mental Health Commission), and
  • James Finn (Strategy & Reform Directorate, Courts Service).
