The Government is to nominate Mr Justice Maurice Collins as an ordinary judge of the Supreme Court, and Judge Melanie Greally as an ordinary judge of the High Court.
The Supreme Court vacancy arose following the retirement of Chief Justice Frank Clarke on 10 October 2021.
The High Court vacancy arose following the appointment of Ms Justice Nuala Butler to the Court of Appeal on 17 October last.
Mr Justice Collins was educated at University College Cork and the King’s Inns. He was called to the Bar in 1989, became a senior counsel in 2003, and was appointed to the Court of Appeal in October 2019.
He was appointed a part-time commissioner of the Law Reform Commission in October 2020.
Judge Greally was educated at University College Dublin and King’s Inns, and was called to the Bar in 1991. She was appointed to the Circuit Court in November 2014 and assigned to the Dublin Circuit in July 2015.
