Maples, Matheson lead funds-adviser rankings

Maples and Calder was the leading legal adviser to Irish-serviced funds for the ninth year in a row, according to a new report. while Matheson topped the rankings for Irish-domiciled funds.

Research company Monterey Insight found that the value of Irish-domiciled funds rose by 28% in the year to 30 June 2021. The number of Irish funds and sub-funds grew by 5% to 5,998 during the same period.

For all funds serviced in Ireland (including non-domiciled funds under administration or custody in Ireland) Maples Group continued to lead, providing legal advice to 1,464 funds. Dillon Eustace was second, with 1,302 funds.

Matheson top for assets

Matheson topped the ranking by assets, however, advising funds worth $1,216 billion

For Irish-domiciled funds only, Matheson ranked first, advising 1,232 funds, followed by Dillon Eustace with 1,203, and Maples Group in third place with 1,008.

Maples recently appointed Eimear O'Dwyer and Adam Donoghue as co-heads of its Irish funds and investment-management division.
