A Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Law Society will take place on Thursday 3 March 2022, at 6.30pm.

All members of the Law Society are invited to attend this meeting. The agenda for the SGM can be found on the Law Society’s website.

The purpose of the SGM is to finalise two resolutions passed at the AGM 2021 to provide for:

• Consideration of electronic voting in both the Law Society’s annual election and the provincial elections,
• To make the necessary bye-law amendments to accommodate this change.

Digital-first policy

The move towards an electronic voting system is an extension of the Law Society’s digital-first policy.

The Law Society Council approved the SGM date at its 28 January meeting.

A full review of the bye-laws has now taken place, focused on expressly providing for electronic voting, and for electronic communications between the Law Society and its members.

Law Society President Michelle Ní Longáin is inviting all members to review the proposed amendments, and to attend the SGM to have their say on these matters.

Register to attend

The SGM will take place as a hybrid event to accommodate both in-person and online attendance.

The in-person venue will be the Lecture Hall, Education Centre, Law Society of Ireland, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.

Advance registration for online attendance is essential. Registration for members attending in-person is not mandatory but is encouraged. 

Those wishing to attend and vote at the SGM must hold current membership of the Law Society. Membership renewal can be done online.
