Will Carmody to head MHC team from January

Mason Hayes & Curran (MHC) has announced that Will Carmody will be the firm’s new managing partner, taking over from Declan Black on 1 January 2023.

Carmody (pictured), who joined MHC in 2002, has been head of its financial-services department since 2018, and a member of the firm’s senior management group since 2020.

He is a leading adviser to domestic and international financial institutions in Ireland.

MHC said that the firm had more than doubled in size and revenue during Declan Black’s nine-year tenure, making it the fourth-largest in Ireland by lawyer numbers.

Growth

Carmody said that he looked forward to building on the growth of the last nine years.

“Ireland’s position in the EU, together with its stable investment climate and healthy domestic economy, gives us confidence, and we look forward to the continued growth of our firm alongside the success of our clients,” he stated.

Black is to continue in his role as a dispute-resolution partner, prioritising strategic and high-profile litigation matters.

Chair of the firm Christine O’Donovan paid tribute to Black, describing his support for clients and staff as “steadfast”, despite challenging times that included Brexit and the pandemic.
