Judge Gerard Griffin (pictured), who is a past president of the Law Society, is due to retire from the Circuit Court on 8 January 2023.
Tributes were being paid to Judge Griffin today (21 December) in Naas Court Office.
He has served as a Circuit Court judge since 2007.
Judge Griffin was educated in Belvedere College, Dublin, and is a graduate of UCD.
He was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 1978, and was first nominated to the Law Society Council in 1982 as a representative of the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association. He was elected to the Council in his own right in 1987.
He became junior vice-president in 1998, senior vice-president in 2002 and served as president of the Law Society for the year 2003/2004.
Judge Griffin chaired many of the Society’s committees during his 25-year tenure on Council – including finance, registrar’s, compensation fund, and litigation.
