Coaching for solicitors and practice managers

The Law Society Skillnet and Professional Training team is organising a course entitled ‘Coaching Skills for Solicitors and Practice Managers 2022’.

Participation will yield full General and full Management and Professional Development Skills required for 2022, (by group study), and the course is available at a reduced rate.

The masterclass will commence with a workshop on Friday 4 March and Saturday 5 March.

Tools

This course will provide the tools and framework to:

  • Understand when coaching is appropriate,
  • To hold effective coaching conversations, and
  • To use a coaching approach for talent development and management.

Participants will experience being coached and will practise their newly-learned coaching skills, learning how to use coaching to develop a team and for employee engagement, performance and motivation.

Dates of workshops:

  • Workshop 1: Friday 4 and Saturday 5 March,
  • Workshop 2: Friday 1 April,
  • Workshop 3: Friday 20 May.

The approach is a combination of theory and experiential learning. Feedback will be offered on progress throughout the programme. All sessions will be held in-person if restrictions allow. 

What you will learn:

  • Definition and the role of coaching in business and organisational contexts,
  • Differences between coaching and mentoring,
  • Principles of coaching, coaching tools and methods,
  • Coaching for employee engagement, performance and motivation,
  • The psychology of change and how this applies in business,
  • Manager as coach and flexing leadership styles,
  • Using coaching skills to develop a team.

Performance coaching and assessment

Outside of the workshops, delegates are to complete six hours of performance coaching and a 1,000-word essay reflecting on their coaching practice and use of coaching skills, tools, and methods.
