Barrister in court charged with Tallaght murder

A barrister and law lecturer has appeared in court charged with the murder of Keith Conlon in a shooting on farmland near Tallaght in Dublin earlier this week.

Senior counsel Diarmuid Phelan (53) was remanded in custody, having appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara at Tallaght District Court today (25 February).

Mr Conlon was shot and seriously wounded at Hazelgrove Farm near Tallaght on Tuesday. The father of four died yesterday (24 February) at Tallaght University Hospital.

Arrest at the scene

Mr Conlon was with a group of local men at the time of the incident. A dog was also shot dead.

Gardaí had arrested the accused at the scene and detained him at Tallaght station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

The judge remanded Mr Phelan in custody to appear again by video link at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
