Mobile-phone operator Vodafone is to refund more than €2 million to around 74,000 Irish customers after a review of its billing system.
The review followed an inquiry by the telecoms watchdog ComReg.
It found that some customers continued to be charged for services after they had cancelled their contracts.
ComReg said that Vodafone had kept these post-cancellation charges as credits on cancelled accounts, refunding the money only when customers made a request.
Vodafone has also found customers with other types of credits on their inactive accounts.
ComReg said that these had not been claimed, nor proactively refunded by Vodafone, after the cancellation of these customers’ contracts.
Vodafone will refund €1.3 million in post-cancellation charges, and €790,000 linked to other credits.
The company has pledged to proactively refund any credits to customers in future.
Its rival Three Ireland committed to refunding almost €2.7 million to customers after a similar review earlier this year.
