Speakers confirmed for Four Courts battle centenary lectures

Battle of the Four Courts centenary lectures

The Four Courts 100 lecture series will take place between April and July this year, commemorating the battle of the Four Courts 100 years ago.

On Thursday 28 April Mr Justice Gerard Hogan of the Supreme Court will speak on the Count Plunkett habeas corpus application and the end of the Dáil Supreme Court.

On Thursday 12 May, Mr Justice John Hedigan and a panel will speak on the topic of ‘The National Archives – the Memory of a Nation’.

Civilians and firemen

Liz Gillis and Las Fallon will speak on ‘Unheard Voices: civilians and firemen and the battle for the Four Courts’ on 19 May, while Professor Diarmaid Ferriter will address ‘Despair and Defiance: the Four Courts Crisis 1922’ on 26 May.

On 2 June, Professor Eunan O'Halpin and Ruth Cannon BL will speak on ‘An all-island war? Ireland 1922-24/Women and the Occupation of the Four Courts’.

Michael Fewer, Caitriona Crowe and Ciaran O'Connor will speak at the launch of the photographic exhibition on 24 June while Bláthna Ruane SC will address the topic of ‘Turned upside down: law, the judges, and the legal professions in 1922’ for the final lecture on 7 July.
