Probate Masterclass aimed at cutting out errors
The Law Society is holding a Probate Masterclass in Blackhall Place on 6 May.
The Law Society says that too many practitioners are having their applications for grants rejected – firstly for title reasons, and then for other errors.
The masterclass will highlight the most common reasons why applications are rejected on the grounds of title.
It will also discuss the most common other errors, and how to avoid them and get your grant through first time, every time.
Probate Office practice
Included in this masterclass is the 7th Edition of the Law Society OUP Wills, Probate & Estates Manual, due to be published in March 2022, which will form the core text.
The key topics and issues are:
- Probate Office practice and procedure, and why it matters,
- Title: who are you, and why are you applying for this grant?,
- Getting the SA 2 Statement of Affairs (Probate) right, and making sure it is compatible with your papers,
- Supporting documentation; getting it all right,
- Other types of application to the Probate Officer or court,
- Learning outcomes.
The masterclass will be chaired by Padraic Courtney (Secretary to the Probate, Administration & Trusts Committee, Dublin), who qualified as a solicitor in 1994, and has worked for the Law Society’s Law School as a course manager, specialising in probate and taxation, for more than 25 years.
The speakers are:
- John Glennon BL MBA (High Court Probate Officer, Dublin),
- Anne Stephenson (chairperson of the Law Society’s PAT Committee),
- Anne Heenan (Deputy Probate Officer),
- Rita Considine (County Registrar for Dublin).
Attendees will receive six general CPD hours (by group study).
