The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and Law Society Annual Copyright Lecture will take place on 4 May in Blackhall Place.
Speakers at this year’s event will include Dr Mark Hyland (Law Society IMRO Adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property), and the lecture will be chaired by James Hickey (external director, IMRO).
IMRO plays a key role in administering performing rights for national and international songwriters, composers and music publishers.
This year’s lecture will focus on article 17 of the Digital Single Market Directive.
James Hickey was a practising solicitor and partner in charge of the media and entertainment law group in the law firm now known as Matheson for 19 years between 1992 and 2011. He was appointed to the position of CEO of the Irish Film Board (now Screen Ireland) in 2011, and served in that position until 2019.
Dr Mark Hyland (small picture) has been a lecturer at the College of Business, Technological University Dublin since March 2020. His main field of research is intellectual-property law, with a special focus on copyright law.
