Law firm Addleshaw Goddard has reported an increase of more than 15% in profits for the year to the end of April.

Total profit rose to Stg £155 million, while gross revenue was up 18% to Stg £377 million.

During the year, the firm launched four new offices – including one in Dublin after a merger with Eugene F Collins.

While its UK income grew by 15%, income from outside the UK jumped by 30%, as it also opened offices in Paris, Frankfurt and Luxembourg

‘Meaningful presence’ in Ireland

The expansion meant that staff numbers rose by 18% to 2,348. Addleshaw Goddard now has 348 partners – including 25 new partners in Ireland.

Managing partner John Joyce (pictured) attributed the increase in profits to two factors: “Firstly, the year was a very busy one for our transactional teams, but generally across the firm we were busier than ever, working across a greater number of offices on higher value work.

“Secondly, we made further material people investments – most notably responding to client demand for a meaningful presence in Ireland and Luxembourg, as well as growing Paris and Germany.”

Among the deals the firm worked on during the period was AIB’s sale of its SME business in Britain.
