Gardaí say they recorded 1,675 vehicles exceeding speed limits during the 24 hours of its national ‘slow down day’ campaign, which ran from 7am yesterday (1 March).
Chief Superintendent Michael Hennebry (Garda National Roads Policing Bureau) said that, while most people drove safely within the speed limits, there was still a minority of drivers that chose to ignore the legal limits and public warnings.
“We will continue to focus on those non-compliant drivers who drive in excess of the speed limit, posing a significant risk to themselves and other road users,” he said.
