Inaugural inter-varsity event for Irish law students

The first-ever Inter-varsity Law Summit will be hosted by University College Cork Law Society at Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork city, from 25-27 February.

The event will bring together every Irish university law society and law school for the first time.

The participating law schools are:

  • UCD,
  • TCD,
  • DCU,
  • NUI Maynooth,
  • NUI Galway, and
  • Host UCC.

The event is sponsored by 12 of Ireland's leading law firms, the Bar Council, and others.

Summit

The inter-varsity summit is a ticketed event, and the goal is that organisation of the event will pass from university to university into the future.

The three-day summit will feature various interactive events, such as the national moot and mock trial finals, the inter-varsity gala dinner and gala ball, various presentations, a panel discussion, and a keynote presentation from former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

Throughout the weekend, there will also be charitable fundraising.

Organisers hope that the event will see the resumption of in-person interaction following the isolation of students during the two-year pandemic.

Reunite students

“This is the perfect event to reunite students across the country with their education, and to reignite their interest in law and the future of the legal profession,” said organiser Niamh McDermott.

The theme of the law summit is: ‘Breaking barriers: let the law unite’. Tickets will go on sale shortly.
