US ban hits Aer Lingus Manchester plans

Continuing restrictions on travel into the US have forced Aer Lingus to delay the start date for two of its transatlantic services from Manchester.

In a statement, the airline said its route to New York’s JFK would now start on 1 December, with a service to Orlando beginning on 11 December.

The routes had been due to operate from 30 September.

A new direct service from Manchester to Barbados will, however, go ahead as scheduled on 20 October.

EU’s call

European travellers have been banned from entering the US since March 2020.

US President Joe Biden had signalled an end to the restrictions earlier this summer, but the White House later said it would maintain the travel bans for the foreseeable future, due to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Earlier this month, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen urged the US to scrap the travel ban for EU citizens.
