Solicitor joins medical-scientists watchdog

Solicitor Karen Watret has been appointed to the Medical Scientists Registration Board.

The appointment, announced by the Department of Health, runs from 24 June of this year to 8 November 2022.

A partner at Doyle Solicitors, she specialises in healthcare law – in particular medical-defence litigation, data-protection regulation, medical ethics, risk management and professional negligence.

Watret also has a BSc in Microbiology, a PhD in Immunology, and was a post-doctoral research fellow in HIV/AIDS Immunology.

Barrister appointed

The department also announced that barrister Colm Scott-Byrne had been appointed to the Dietitians Registration Board, with his term running from 24 June of this year to 20 June 2025.

A practising barrister at the Law Library, his main areas of practice include personal injuries, medical negligence and judicial review.

Both boards come under the auspices of CORU, the body that regulates a number of health and social-care professions under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005.
