Magic circle firm offers unpaid time off

Top London firm Slaughter and May is offering staff job-share flexible working schemes in the downtime between deals.

Under the scheme, two associates may pool to cover one role, with each working three days and one day of overlap.

The firm is also offering a one-fifth reduction in working hours with commensurate blocks of leave.

Blocks of time

The flexi-time option is not limited to parents and lawyers who opt for blocks of time off will work five days a week in between their periods of holiday.

Associates may also opt to work on a project basis – cutting hours by one-fifth and taking unpaid leave in the downtime between large transactions.

This time off will be in addition to annual leave, and the pay cut will be commensurate with the time taken off.
