Law firms in England and Wales may be compelled to sign up for review websites.
Britain’s Legal Services Board, which oversees the profession, is examining a paper on quality indicators, which states that a market-led approach is preferable to a standardised centralised model imposed by regulators.
Regulators have been pushed to give consumers more information on legal services.
The paper also says that compulsory measures may be necessary if the legal profession is to sign up to comparison and review sites, and if they fail to do so in a voluntary manner.
The paper suggest that regulatory bodies should make use of a “variety of levers to effect change, including mandatory requirements on providers as required”.
Last, year, the Competition and Markets Authority in Britain pointed out that anyone looking for a lawyer has little information in determining quality.
