Matheson launches digital legal services group

The initiative will see an integrated tech team of 17 digital-services professionals working together, including lawyers, artificial intelligence software developers, legal solutions consultants and architects, legal project managers, document automation specialists, and business analysts.

The move comes in response to the increased client demand in the area of legal tech, and will provide customised digital legal services and solutions for clients operating across a range of industries and sectors.

Evolving needs

In areas of large-volume legal work, client needs are evolving to requirements for enhanced legal process efficiency, as well as bespoke new digital products in the delivery of legal solutions, Matheson says.

The scope will include:

  • Project managing complex, cross-border, due-diligence processes using machine-learning contract-analysis software,
  • Managing one of the largest e-discovery projects in the history of the State,
  • Developing regulatory compliance software.

Matheson was named Ireland’s most innovative law firm in the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Report 2019, and ranked in the top 25 most innovative law firms in Europe.

Head of the digital services group Tom Connor said: “The use of current and emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence and intelligent automation, are transforming the legal sector – and the ways in which we can now deliver legal services.

“At Matheson, our new service offering operates across three divisions: client solutions, legal process optimisation, and digital innovation, and it will be available to clients operating across a range of business and industry sectors.

Strategic

“The continued integration of digital into our core legal business is an important strategic development for the firm, as it allows us to respond to market demand for technology-enabled solutions.

Managing partner Michael Jackson said: “We are confident that, by combining our digital services offering with our traditional services and our deep understanding of our clients’ businesses, we will continue to be the law firm of choice for internationally focused companies and financial institutions doing business in and from Ireland.”
