McCann Fitz name etched on TCD benefactors’ frieze
Trinity College Dublin has paid permanent testament to top three firm McCann FitzGerald by inscribing its name on the benefactors’ frieze in the University’s Dining Hall.
This is Trinity’s permanent and public testament to individuals, groups and corporations who have given exceptional support to the university.
The inscription was unveiled at a celebration of McCann FitzGerald’s decade-long support of Trinity and the firm’s recent commitment to financially support the new Trinity Law School building.
The new building is a flagship project of Trinity’s first public philanthropic campaign, Inspiring Generations, which launched last May with ambitious targets of €400m and 150,000 volunteering hours.
Many Trinity law graduates have built successful careers within McCann FitzGerald, one of Ireland’s leading corporate law firms.
Engagement
In recent years the firm has deepened its engagement with Trinity through initiatives including:
- TCPID, the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities, which aims to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in education and society. In January 2019 the first six graduates from TCPID’s new two-year Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice were conferred with the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level five awards. This is the first time that students with intellectual disability have been conferred at this level by any university. A graduate of TCPID has recently been employed at McCann FitzGerald.
- Trinity Access Pathways to Law initiative, which works to help students from under-represented groups to study law.
The firm also sponsors the McCann FitzGerald Chair of Corporate Law, held by Professor Blanaid Clarke since 2012.
As the McCann Fitzgerald name was added to the benefactors’ frieze, Trinity Provost Patrick Prendergast warmly thanked managing partner Barry Devereux, energy group head Patricia Lawless and other colleagues.
“By adding McCann FitzGerald’s name to this benefactors’ frieze, we commemorate their exceptional support to significant initiatives in Trinity College Dublin that are transformative in the areas of access, education and law,” Dr Prendergast said.
