Celebrating a century of women in the law
A dinner to celebrate the centenary of the enactment of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 will be held at the King’s Inns in Dublin on 30 November.
This was the legislation that permitted women to become solicitors and barristers for the first time. The change also led to women joining the civil service, accountancy and other professions.
Impact
The centenary celebration event is a collaboration between the Kings Inns, the Law Society, the Bar of Ireland, and the Irish Women Lawyers’ Association, as a means of recognising the impact this legal change had on society.
The keynote speech will be delivered by emeritus law professor and former president of Ireland Mary McAleese.
The reception will take place from 7pm, with call to dinner at 7.30 pm. Tickets are €120 and are available to purchase now.
