Data breaches spark 22 actions against Eir

Telecoms company Eir is facing 22 sets of legal actions in the Circuit Court after two recent data breaches in contravention of GDPR regulations, the Irish Examiner reports.

The news follows the loss last year of a laptop holding the names and personal details of 37,000 customers.

Asbestos exposure

The firm is also facing legal actions from 116 current and former staff over loss-of-hearing capacity, and 107 claims relating to asbestos exposure.

The lawsuit details were contained in the company’s annual bondholders’ report.

On the data breach, Eir said: “Due to significant potential fines, a breach of these regulations could have a material adverse effect on our business, financial condition and results of operations.”
