Labour Court to probe conditions in building services sector

28 Aug 2019 / regulation Print

Labour Court to probe building sector conditions

The Labour Court is to examine terms and conditions of employment in the mechanical engineering contracting sector.

The move follows a request by two trade unions under Section 14 of the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2015 .

The probe will examine pay rates and sickness and pension schemes.

Sectoral order

The Labour Court says this could result in a recommendation to the Minister to make a Sectoral Employment Order.

This would provide for legally enforceable minimum terms and conditions of employment in the sector.

The Labour Court is inviting interested parties to make representations in the form of a written submission and to do so by close of business on 24 September.

Submissions can be emailed to info@labourcourt.ie or posted to the Labour Court, Lansdowne House, Lansdowne Road, Dublin 4.

Parties

Following receipt of submissions, the Labour Court may convene an oral hearing of concerned parties.

The section 14 request and the Court’s public notice can be viewed here.
