Clare and Limerick gear up for an ‘Essential Solicitor Update’ this Friday

A reminder to practitioners based in the west and south-west that the ‘Essential Solicitor Update Clare 2019’ takes place this Friday 28 June 2019, from 10am - 5.30pm. The venue is The Inn at Dromoland, Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare.

This Law Society Finuas Skillnet cluster event is being held in association with Clare Bar Association and Limerick Bar Association.

The day will provide an opportunity for practitioners to update their knowledge in areas of limited liability partnerships, conveyancing, landlord and tenant, and criminal law. Practitioners will receive practical updates in these areas of law from experienced practitioners and expert speakers.

Topics

The topics being covered include:

  • New business models for solicitors: including a practical guide to limited liability partnerships and law firms,
  • Regulation essentials 2019,
  • Family law update,
  • Conveyancing essentials, including new properties on an estate and buying from receivers,
  • Landlord and tenant, including residential and commercial property updates, and tenants’ rights,
  • Criminal law, featuring an update on the new drink-driving laws, and
  • Stress and solicitors. 

Speakers

The Law Society’s president Patrick Dorgan will assume the role of chair, and speakers will include: Suzanne Bainton (principal, Liston & Co, Dublin), John Elliot (director of regulation, Law Society of Ireland), Paul Keane (managing partner, Reddy Charlton Solicitors, and chairman of the Law Society’s LSRA Task Force), Antoinette Moriarty (psychotherapist), David Soden (principal, David Soden Solicitors), Dr Geoffrey Shannon (solicitor, State Special Rapporteur on Child Protection) and David Staunton BL. Further speakers to be confirmed.

The event will provide three general, one management and professional development skills, two regulatory matters (including one accounting and AML compliance), giving a total of six CPD points (by group study).
