Police ban dog-walking in Tehran parks
Iran's capital city has banned dog-walking in a further clampdown on dog ownership.
Tehran Police Chief Hossein Rahimi has said "measures” will be taken against people walking dogs in public spaces, such as parks, the BBC reports.
Driving with a dog on board is also banned, allegedly because dogs cause “fear and anxiety” in the public.
Forbidden
"It is forbidden to drive dogs around in cars and, if this is observed, serious police action will be taken against the car-owners in question," the police chief told journalists.
Dogs are viewed as "unclean" by Iran's Islamic authorities, who see dog-ownership as a symbol of westernisation.
