Ms Justice Mary Laffoy appointed President of LRC

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy has been appointed as President of the Law Reform Commission for a three-year term. 

Formerly a judge of the Supreme Court, she retired in June 2017

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy also served as chair of the Citizens’ Assembly.

The Law Reform Commission's role is to keep the law under independent, objective and expert review and to conduct research with a view to the reform of the law. 

This includes the development of law, its codification (including its simplification and modernisation) and the revision and consolidation of statute law. 

The Commission is an independent body established under the Law Reform Commission Act 1975.

It encourages active participation by citizens in the process of law reform in Ireland and sees law reform as inclusive.
