Law Society Professional Training has unveiled its spring programme with a brand new course in coaching for managers on offer.

Beginning on 1 March, the course is limited to 16 participants. The training approach is 
a combination of theory and experiential learning, providing the tools and framework to understand when coaching is appropriate and the knowhow to use a coaching approach for talent development and management.

Learning modules include

• Definition and the role of coaching in business and organisational context,
• Differences between coaching and mentoring,
• Principles of coaching, tools and methods,
• Coaching for employee engagement, performance and motivation,
• The psychology of change and how this applies to you and your employees in business,
• Manager as coach and flexing leadership styles,
• Using coaching skills to develop your team.

The course involves day-long weekend workshops in March and May.

Performance coaching

Participants will complete six hours of performance coaching and a 1000-word essay reflecting on their coach practice and use of coaching skills, tools and methods.

The course is delivered by trained psychotherapist Antoinette Moriarty, trainer and executive coaches Isolde Norris and Pamela Fay.

The cost is €1,440 with a discounted fee of €1,200 for Law Society Finuas Skillnet members.

Another new offering this spring is the certificate in professional education.

This course is suited to educators from a range of professional fields including law, medicine, accountancy, taxation, pharmacy and international education.

Knowledge base

The demands on a professional educator are distinct and the skillset and knowledge base required are different from those required for general education and training.

This innovative course recognises this difference and is tailored specifically to meet the needs of professional educators. 

Train the trainer

We bring the traditional ‘train the trainer’ concept to a contemporary and new, more advanced, level by taking a nuanced and comprehensive approach to the theory and knowledge, attitudinal judgement and skills and practice required to excel as a professional educator. 

There is integrated use of technology throughout the programme with use of an iPad for delivery of the course.
