Top level garda promotions revealed

This year’s recruitment campaign for new members of An Garda Síochána has been launched on www.publicjobs.ie.

Justice minister Charlie Flanagan said the job is one of public service where members make a vital contribution to the safety and well-being of communities.

Minorities

He encouraged minority communities to consider a career in policing  saying it is important for the force to reflect the increasing diversity of Irish life. 

Garda numbers will reach 15,000 in 2021 and 2,600 new recruits have attested  since September 2014.

Salary

A two-year training programme leads to a BA in Applied Policing and a starting salary of €30,296 rising to €48,754  after eight years.

The closing date for applications is 24 April.

Meanwhile, the following Chief Superintendents have been assigned responsibility following promotion:

  • Chief Superintendent Michael Gubbins to Clare Division,

  • Chief Superintendent Eileen Foster to Kerry Garda Division.

Chief Superintendent Thomas Myers has been transferred to Cork North Division.

The following Superintendents are assigned responsibility following promotion:

  • Superintendent John Ryan to Policy Development Implementation and Monitoring

  • Superintendent Aileen Magner to Newcastlewest District

  • Superintendent Adrian Gamble to Baltinglass District

  • Superintendent Patrick O Connell to Ardee District

  • Superintendent Oliver Henry to Naas District

  • Superintendent Peter Burke to Garda Youth Diversion Bureau

  • Superintendent Edmund Golden to Garda National Roads Policing Bureau

  • Superintendent Nigel Mulleady to Garda Professional Standards Unit

  • Superintendent Dermot O’Connor to Kells District


The following Superintendents are assigned responsibility on transfer:
