LGBT+, African nationals and Roma funded by IHREC

LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees, Travellers, and service providers for the Roma community in Tallaght are among the 32 beneficiaries of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission grant aid programme for 2018.

The grants are disbursed under the themes of intercultural diversity and understanding, and supporting implementation of public sector equality and human rights duties.

In Dublin, the Dolphin House Community Development Association will be funded to the tune of €6,000 for a project to support the integration of non Irish-born tenants in Dublin city flat complexes.

The Little Museum of Dublin on Stephen’s Green is getting €20,000 to run an exhibition on the topic of Dublin’s reception of refugees over the years.

Meanwhile Fettercairn Community Health Project has been awarded €6,000 by IHREC to run a conference for all those providing services to the Roma community in the Tallaght area.

Roma figures a 'guesstimate'

Spokeswoman Deirdre Jacob, co-ordinator of the Tallaght Roma Integration Project, said that population figures for those of Roma origin living in Tallaght are only a guesstimate.

“There are no ethnic identifiers so that’s not a number that we can quantify,” she said.

The exact date of the conference is yet to be finalised but all those providing services to Roma will be invited to attend.
