Children in the witness box

The Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development will be running a seminar on child defendants in the witness box at the end of the month.

'Child Defendants and Child Witnesses in Court – Contemporary Challenges for Juvenile Justice' will be held at the Education Centre at the Law Society in Blackhall Place, on Thursday 29 November. 

Registration will open at 5.30pm and the seminar will get underway at 6pm.

This event will be chaired by Prof Ursula Kilkelly and will feature the following speakers:

  • Prof Michael Fitzgerald, speaking on 'Challenges for children on the autism spectrum',
  • Vivienne Foley, speaking on 'Recognising speech and language difficulties and appropriate supports',
  • Judge John O'Connor, speaking on 'Challenges in adjudicating capacity for children to participate in court proceedings – theory and practice'.
