230,000 signatures protest at sentencing of lawyer

International lawyer organisations have expressed outrage at the sentencing of Iranian human rights defender Nasrin Sotoudeh.

Womens’ rights advocate Sotoudeh was sentenced to 33 years in prison and 148 lashes as a result of her legal work.

Call for immediate release

The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) and other international and European lawyers’ organisations and several Bars and Law Societies are calling for her immediate release.

The French National Bar Council (CNB) has launched a petition calling for her release which has been signed by more than 230,000 people.

Lawyers are invited to share and sign the petition which is available on the CCBE website in the human rights portal.
