Solicitors of the Future is an innovative Transition Year (TY) programme offered by the Law Society of Ireland which provides students with an introduction to the solicitor’s profession.  Open to schools around the country, Solicitors of the Future encourages TY students to consider a career in law and offers an insight into the role of a solicitor in practice. In addition, this TY programme shows how the law can be relevant to the daily lives of participants and promotes awareness of the legal processes, constitutional principles, and values which underpin the rule of law in Ireland. 

Following a very successful online programme in 2023, the programme will take place during the school mid-term break in February 2024.

This programme is free of charge to schools. 

About the programme

• Open to schools around the country, Solicitors of the Future encourages Transition Year (TY) students to consider a career in law and offers an insight into the role of a solicitor in practice. In addition, this TY programme shows how the law can be relevant to the daily lives of participants and promotes awareness of the legal processes, constitutional principles, and values which underpin the rule of law in Ireland.

• Facilitated by Law Society staff, trainee solicitors, and expert practitioners, the activity-based programme features expert-led workshops, guest speakers, courtroom activities, a careers seminar and a mock trial.

• Places on the programme are limited and are allocated to schools through a lottery system. Selection of the student to attend the programme is at the school's discretion and the Law Society of Ireland has no role in this process.

• Successful schools are allocated a place for one student only. Should a school fail to nominate a participating student by the deadline, the school's place will be forfeited and another school will be selected via the lottery draw.
