New CPD Scheme Regulations (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) (Amendment) Regulations 2014) (S.I No. 329 of 2014) come into effect on 1 January 2015. Solicitors are advised to familiarise themselves with these new Regulations which amend the 2012 CPD Regulations (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations 2012 (S.I. No. 501 of 2012)).
The CPD requirement for the 2015 cycle is 16 hours (to include a minimum of 3 hours management and professional development skills and a minimum of 1 hour regulatory matters).
The 2014 Regulations, in amending the 2012 CPD Regulations, introduce a sum for failure by a solicitor to comply with the Society’s CPD audit. The 2014 Regulations enable the Society to require payment of a sum not exceeding €300 by way of contribution towards costs in situations where a solicitor has refused, neglected or otherwise failed to respond appropriately in a timely manner, or at all, to the Society’s correspondence in the course of an investigation as to compliance with the CPD Regulations.
