Why join?

By joining the Law Society of Ireland Council, solicitors can play an important role in shaping and developing the future of their profession. For information on the work of the Council, see the President & Council page. 

To stand for election to the Council, a member must be nominated by two fellow members of the Law Society. A member of the Society may nominate only two candidates, whether for the annual election or a provincial election.

Key dates

Please note the following key dates in the election process:

• Closing date for nominations: Monday 28 September 2020 at 5:00 pm
• Final date to submit canvassing literature for distribution to members: Thursday 15 October 2020 at 5:00 pm
• Close of poll date: Thursday 5 November 2020 at 5:00 pm
• AGM: Thursday 12 November 2020
