Patents Office - no faxes or cheques

22/07/2014 09:31:59

As of 1 July 2014, it is no longer possible to file by fax and, as of 19 September 2014, it will not be possible to pay by cheque at the Irish Patents Office.

Filing by fax discontinued

The Patents Office discontinued the filing by fax of national trade mark applications as of 1 July 2014. This was partly due to the successful introduction of the new trade mark e-filing facility, available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. E-filed applications will have until 12 midnight on official working days to be allocated a filing date. Other options including filing by post or in person are also available. More information is available on their website under How to Apply.

Electronic payments

From 19 September, the Patents office will no longer accept cheques. Alternative payment options will be available as follows:

  • Online credit and debit card payments for renewal fees, trade mark registration fees and patent grant fees via the Patents office website.
  • By telephone call to the Patents Office quoting credit or debit card number – for all fees.
  • Electronic funds transfer (EFT) – for all fees.
