The Law Society provides several services of particular value to in-house practitioners.

Library services

The Law Society Library offers a number of services that may be useful for in-house or public sector solicitors. These include:

  • A subscription to In-House Lawyer, a quarterly journal published by Legalease.
  • Highly topical books such as In-house Ethics in Practice by Tracey Calvert, Butterworth’s In-House Handbook by Ian Jones and The Future of the In-house Lawyer: the General Counsel Revolution by Richard Tapp.
  • Article searches and online case law database services.

You can access these services through the Law Society Library.

In-House LinkedIn Group

A LinkedIn group is also available for solicitors working in the in-house and public sectors.This group, started in December 2016, enables in-house solicitors to connect and network with colleagues across organisations. 

Training opportunities

Training for in-house solicitors is provided by Law Society Professional Training and the Law Society Diploma Centre. Relevant training opportunities include:

  • The Certificate in Public Procurement, offered by the Law Society Diploma Centre, will provide a detailed knowledge of the sources and scope of procurement law, both domestically and in the EU. This course starts on 25 March 2017Book the Certificate in Public Procurement
  • The Law Society Finuas Network Executive Leadership Programme is designed for senior practitioners who wish to develop their leadership skills, translating confidence as a lawyer into confidence as a leader of lawyers. This course starts on 28 April 2017, and must be booked by 21 April. Book the Executive Leadership Programme

The In-House and Public Sector Committee

The In-House and Public Sector Committee of the Law Society supports solicitors across the in-house sector with guidance and information, liaison with Irish and international in-house representative bodies, and other actions.
