They will be attending the North West General Practice Update 2016 in Lough Eske Castle Hotel, hosted by Law Society Skillnet, in collaboration with the Donegal Bar Association and Inishowen Bar Association.

The seminar is part of a nationwide programme of cluster events taking place throughout the country this year.

Describing the event, Law Society of Ireland Director of Member Services Teri Kelly said, “Local solicitors have identified a range of legal issues – including the Legal Services Regulation Act, conveyancing and probate – as being of key importance for the North West. Experts on these topics will deliver updates and highlight recent developments in the law and provide a forum for discussion and debate.”

Local perspective

Local solicitor Brendan Twomey will chair the event on Thursday. He has been the Revenue Sherriff of Donegal for nearly thirty years and is the Principal Solicitor at James P. Sweeney & Co, located on Main Street in Falcarragh.

Mr Twomey says that the growth in the local economy can often be measured by taking a look at the business coming into solicitors’ offices.

“Donegal solicitors are seeing a definite increase in conveyancing business. We know that increased house-buying would tend to indicate an upturn in the overall economy of the area.”

He notes that house-buying has become much more complex in recent years. “It is important that anyone buying a house is aware that there may be a number of potential issues involved in the transaction, which could lead to delays.”

“In order to enable a problem-free sale it is important to contact your solicitor early in the buying or selling process. Many people do not realise until it is too late the complexities involved in selling their home. This can cause delays and stress for those looking for a quick and relatively easy sale.

“There can be a significant number of problems with property titles and they can take some time to correct. Since the recession there have also been new charges which can affect buying or selling your home. In order to minimise these delays you should have your solicitor look at the title deeds at an early stage.”
