Timetable Information
Please read this section before you open the timetable
- All students will be issued a core tutorial group number for the duration of the PPC1 (Core 01-11 or Core 12-22).
- You will notice that each lecture and tutorial runs twice, and each workshop runs four times this is to facilitate student numbers.
- You are only required to attend at your allotted time.
- Tutorial and Skill group information will ONLY be given to you a few days prior to the commencement of the course and we will not be dealing with individual queries in the interim.
- We do not take stream requests so please do not e-mail requesting a specific start or finish time as there is only 30mins in the difference. A full explanation is available below.
- For Skills, all students are assigned a different group number and they will be allocated to this for the entire course.
Please note this timetable is a working version and is subject to change.
Students will always be notified of any changes made via Moodle, our texting service (if you upload your mobile number), by e-mail and via the plasma screen in the atrium.
Tutorial Group Information
IMPORTANT: View the latest Core Tutorial Group Information. Skills group information will be available on Moodle during induction week.
Only students with a REGISTERED status appear on the list. An updated list will be posted to the website Monday lunchtime. Students who are not fully registered are advised to contact Traineeship: 01-672 4738
Students who have not been allocated a core group for various reasons, should turn up at the Education Centre on Tuesday, 13th September at 9.15am.
The timetable has been available to download from the website since July 2011, and whilst it says "draft" it is the most up-to-date timetable. The timetable is always in a draft status due to situations that can arise over which we have no control e.g. lecturers having to cancel at the last minute, bad weather etc.
Now that tutorial group information has been posted to the website, we are not in a position to change anyone from any group, no matter what the circumstances.
Please be advised we are distributing a large amount of materials on the first day of the course and we advise that you bring a suitable bag/case (in fact we suggest you bring a suitable case). Please note: lockers can be purchased on the first day of the course, the application form is available to download below.
You must attend this distribution. Failure to do so will result in you being charged the last collection fee (€5 per booklet). The first distribution is listed on the timetable, but notification will be given for all scheduled distributions via Moodle, the plasma screen (in the atrium) and by email. In some instances, we will also send a text message. The onus is on each Trainee to attend at that correct time, otherwise the late fee will be charged.
Course Materials FAQs
- Do I need to study before commencing the PPC I?
- Will I get my books before the course starts?
- What books, if any, do I need to purchase?
- When do I collect my materials?
- How will I know when to pick up my books?
- What happens if I miss a collection?
You will not be receiving any study materials in advance of the course.
All course reading and study material are included in your fees and you will not be required to purchase any books.
We will be distributing a large bundle of material on the first day of the course, so please bring a suitable carry bag or case to transport them as they will be quite cumbersome. This distribution will take place in the President’s Hall, Main Building and you are required to collect your books during this time. Failure to do so will result in the late collection fee being applied (see below). The provisional times are 10.30 to 15.30 on Tuesday, 13th September.
There will be several more distributions during the course and whilst we try and ensure that all materials are available to you well in advance, it may be the case that updates only become available immediately prior to a lecture or tutorial. You will be notified of each distribution by text (if you provide your mobile number), on Moodle (our trainee intranet), by email and on the plasma screen in the Atrium.
No excuses will be accepted for not collecting materials at the designated time. If you do miss a distribution then you will be subject to paying the €5.00 late collection fee (per booklet) and no exceptions will be made. This could prove costly so it is in your best interests to arrive at the correct time. You will be required to sign for all course materials.
Locker Information FAQs
- Is everyone issued with a locker?
- How do I apply for a locker?
- What are the advantages of renting a locker?
- What is the cost?
- When do I get my key?
A limited number of lockers are available during the course and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
To apply for a locker, download a Locker Application form. We advise that you do this before the start of the course, as we cannot guarantee that there will be lockers available on 13th September, 2011 and thereafter.
A total cost of €50.00 must be made payable and submitted with the application form. A locker will only be allocated to you once the application form and fee are both submitted.
A €5.00 replacement fee will be applicable if you lose or misplace your key. All property is left at the owner’s risk.
Your locker key will be issued within the first couple of days of the course.
Attendance FAQs
- Will my attendance be monitored?
- What happens if I can’t attend a particular lecture or tutorial?
- What happens if I’m absent for a period of time?
Attendance at all lectures and tutorials is mandatory. Tutors monitor attendance at tutorials. Trainees who fail to attend 7 tutorials will be asked to meet with Geoffrey Shannon (Deputy Director of Education). Trainees who fail to attend 9 tutorials will be asked to meet with TP Kennedy (Director of Education), and at that stage the training solicitors will be notified. Attendance at Skills sessions is compulsory and you will be deemed to “fail” the course if you miss these workshops.
Trainee ID Cards FAQs
- Do I need a trainee id card?
- How do I obtain my trainee id card?
- When do I receive my trainee id card?
Trainees must carry a valid trainee id card at all times.
In order to receive your Trainee ID Card, we require all trainees to submit a suitable digital (.jpeg) passport-type photograph to a.walsh@lawsociety.ie with the following information in the subject line - your name and trainee number. Save your picture using your 8-digit trainee number. For example:
To: a.walsh@lawsociety.ie
Subject: Trainee ID Card - Joe Bloggs 12345678
Attachments: 12345678.jpeg
Trainees who submit a digital photograph by 2nd September will receive their trainee cards at the orientation tutorial, which will take during the first 2 days of the course. All photographs received thereafter will be available for collection 5 working days after receipt of image.
Extra Mural Classes
The Law School are running a series of extra mural classes, which take place in the evenings and generally run for 8 to 10 weeks. The courses aim to complement the training you will receive whilst attending the Professional Practice Course. They are not necessarily specific to the Legal Profession. See details of 2011 extra mural classes.
